This is the second consecutive bleaching event since 2016, and has unfolded while a historic mass coral bleaching event has also devastated Ningaloo Reef on the nation’s West Coast. Quotes attributable to Greens spokesperson for healthy oceans, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson: “A record mass coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef from yet another marine heatwave caused by the burning of fossil fuels should be the biggest news of this election campaign – but you will only hear crickets from Mr Albanese or our Environment Minister on this.
“Peter Dutton last night refused to say he believed extreme weather events battering our nation were driven by climate change. This leaves people who care about stopping the tragic decline of our natural world one very clear choice at the upcoming federal election: vote Greens to keep Dutton out and get Labor to act on the climate crisis. “It’s not enough for governments to acknowledge climate change is the biggest threat to our marine ecosystems, while sticking their heads in the sand on taking strong climate action.
