Ashby applauded efforts by councils like Strathfield to cut back real estate sign clutter, but pointed to soaring agency fees as the real issue. He firmly rejected Victoria’s push for a state-based Voice to Parliament, calling it divisive and costly, contrary to the will of voters in the national referendum. On energy, Ashby credited One Nation for championing a domestic gas reservation policy years before Labor adopted it.

He warned, however, that investment in gas will stall unless governments “get out of the way” and allow new fields to open. “States that refuse to produce gas shouldn’t benefit from the supply,” Ashby said. Do you like this page?
