Senator Hanson clarified she viewed the ceremony as symbolic gestures that don't reflect modern national unity. She also disputed the cultural origins of the practice, arguing it was popularised in the 1970s, not rooted in ancient Aboriginal custom. Hanson stated she will continue this peaceful protest throughout the 48th Parliament.
