One Nation’s comprehensive crime policy combines tougher penalties and more police resources with compassionate intervention and much greater judicial accountability to the community. “We want to establish a panel of community representatives and legal experts that will examine court decisions that lead to an offender committing a crime while on bail. Magistrates will be compelled to justify such a decision before the panel, with proceedings to be completely public and transparent.
“We also want to integrate proven redirection programs for at-risk youth into the justice system. Operation Hard Yakka, based on the Fraser Coast, has a 97% success rate in turning young people’s lives around and it serves as a great model for this initiative. One Nation has already been working with its organisers to bring the program to northern Queensland where it is needed.
“Another impact of escalating crime in our community has been rising insurance costs, which perversely delivers more revenue to the state and Federal governments through stamp duty and the GST.
