“We’re disappointed that Labor has watered down its original proposal, but we strongly support the increase to the low income super tax offset, two-thirds of which will benefit women’s retirement savings,” Greens Economic Justice spokesperson Senator Nick McKim said. “We are going to support the Bill as a downpayment on genuine, progressive tax reform in this budget." “This budget is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for ambitious tax reform, and we are opening the door for Labor to walk through.” “The current tax system has turbo-charged the housing crisis, wealth inequality and a deepening intergenerational divide.

We are demanding bold reform that responds to these challenges and makes our society fairer for young people and working people.” “There is a massive Labor majority in the House of Representatives, the Opposition is a rabble, and the numbers are there in the senate as long as Labor shows courage. The only limit is Labor's level of ambition.” “The Government says it cares about fairness and intergenerational equity, and this budget is the real test of their sincerity.

We expect bold tax reform so young people and working Australians are not left carrying the load while the super-wealthy enjoy generous tax concessions on their income from assets.” “This bill shows just how far we have to go to make our tax system fair.” “Under these changes, a $5 million super account will still face a 14 per cent tax rate on capital gains.

Meanwhile, a nurse or bartender earning $20,000 a year pays 16 cents on every extra dollar earned.” “Right now, the ten richest super accounts in Australia hold an average of $423 million each, and even those accounts will still pay a lower tax rate on capital gains than a full-time worker on the minimum wage.” “Our tax system is turbocharging intergenerational inequality, and unfortunately this bill barely scratches the surface.” “Labor is standing in front of an open goal - if they bring reform that would rein in spiralling inequality and the housing crisis, they will have the Greens' support to get it done.

The only obstacle to real change is Labor.” Facebook for the Australian Greens YouTube for the Australian Greens X for the Australian Greens Instagram for the Australian Greens Bluesky for the Australian Greens Privacy Members website Your safety Contact us Our plan Tax the 1% Tackle the cost of living Healthcare for all Fix the housing crisis Strong climate action In your language 2025 policy platform Policy principles & aims Our team Federal MPs State/territory MPs Officeholders Federal portfolios Federal media releases Take action Volunteer Donate Issues & campaigns Upcoming events Greens Shop Leave a bequest Green Magazine All news Our movement About the Greens Become a member Jobs Members website State/territory parties Contact us The Greens acknowledge the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture.
