Melbourne Shines Purple For Police Legacy Day

Melbourne landmarks will glow purple tonight to mark National Police Legacy Day. Purple reflects the colour of the Michaelmas Daisy – the symbol of National Police Legacy Day. The day honours the service and sacrifice of police officers and the families who carry their legacy forward.

Today we honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty to keep us safe. We pay our respects to fallen officers for their selfless service, and we stand with their families, friends and colleagues today and always. Behind every badge is a family, and Police Legacy ensures they are never alone when tragedy strikes.

Victoria Police Legacy is a not-for-profit that supports police families after loss. They provide counselling, education support and wellbeing programs when and where they are needed most. Last year, it supported 1,320 family members with care and connection.

Tonight’s illumination is a visible reminder that while service ends, sacrifice is never forgotten. Neither are the families left behind.
