A New Sun Rises On Falls Creek

Labor is attracting more visitors to the regions with a striking new art installation to Falls Creek. Minister Settle announced the completion of the Flower of the Alpine Sun just before the snow season. The golden orb fine art sculpture was delivered in partnership with Alpine Resorts Victoria as part of the $10 million Alpine Business Support Package.

The sculpture was designed by internationally recognised artist Gio Veronesi and constructed in Ballarat. It is located across from Halley’s Comet chairlift and the Cloud 9 Restaurant and serves as a viewing platform. It is the only significant fine art piece in the Australian Alps and one of the most unique in regional Australia.

The Alpine Business Support Package has supported several projects across the region. At Falls Creek, this includes the creation of a downhill mountain bike trail and lakeside water attractions, as well as a winter play area for snow lovers – complete with snow-making units and a magic carpet lift. Labor also funded the three-day summer event ‘Feastival’ and the Festival of Light.

These events welcomed visitors back to the resort in 2022 with audio-visual displays that celebrated the 75th anniversary of Falls Creek. The Alpine Business Support Package is part of Labor’s record investment of more than $50 billion into rural and regional Victoria in just over a decade. Only Labor is making our regions even better places to live, work, stay, experience, invest and study.
