The motion put the real question before the Parliament: can Australian families afford the basics of life? For too many, the answer is no. In his speech supporting the motion, Senator Bell said Australians are not celebrating Labor’s “bad budget”; they are looking at the grocery receipt, the petrol gauge, the power bill, the rent notice, the mortgage repayment and the insurance renewal, and they know the truth: Labor’s tax-and-spend agenda is making the country poorer.
Across Australia, working families, pensioners and small business owners are being forced to cut back, go without, or make choices no Australian should have to make. Food, fuel, power, rent, insurance and housing costs have all climbed while Labor keeps spending, taxing and blaming everyone else. Senator Bell made clear that Australians are not asking for luxury.
They are asking to afford the ordinary essentials of life: food, fuel and power in the home with enough left over to live with dignity. This Senate victory shows One Nation is forcing Labor to answer for the pressure Australian households are under. One Nation will keep standing up for working Australians, pensioners and small businesses who deserve a government that puts Australians first.
