Site preparations begin for Macquarie Point multipurpose stadium
Preparatory works are now underway at the Macquarie Point Multipurpose Stadium, marking another major milestone in one of Tasmania’s largest and most significant infrastructure projects. Hazell Bros is undertaking the bulk earthworks following a competitive procurement process, providing this established Tasmanian business with the opportunity to initiate works on this landmark project.
The works, which will run through until mid-2027, will prepare the site for stadium construction and include bulk excavation of around 100,000 cubic metres of soil, site preparation and archaeological investigations, before major construction starts. This work follows significant progress across the precinct and demonstrates the shared vision for the urban renewal of Macquarie Point.
Procurement for the main stadium construction is also progressing, with a tender process currently underway. The successful construction contractor is expected to be appointed at the end of the year, as the project continues to build momentum. The Macquarie Point Precinct is one of the most transformative urban renewal projects ever undertaken in Tasmania, unlocking a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reconnect Hobart’s CBD with the waterfront, while creating a vibrant destination for Tasmanians and visitors alike.
