CONDOLENCES

I move: That this house expresses its sincere sorrow at the death on 1 July 2026 of the Honourable John Dyson Harrowfield and places on record its acknowledgement of the valuable services rendered by him to the Parliament and the people of Victoria as a member of the Legislative Assembly for the electoral district of Mitcham from 1982 to 1992 and as Minister for Small Business from 1991 to 1992 and Minister for Finance in 1992.

On behalf of the government, I would like to sincerely acknowledge the service of Mr Harrowfield to his community in the Mitcham electorate, having been a local member for 10 years after being elected at just 29 years of age. Prior to serving in Parliament Mr Harrowfield worked as an accountant and an economics tutor. I would also like to acknowledge Mr Harrowfield’s contribution to the Labor government in serving as a minister in the Kirner government.

He showed strong support for small business, the financial rights of the elderly and the plight of first home buyers. I extend my condolences, on behalf of the government, to his family and friends and to all who knew him.
