Backing Footy Legends In The Fight Against Prostate Cancer

Labor is backing the fight against prostate cancer with $150,000 for the Australian Prostate Centre. Minister for Medical Research Anthony Carbines will make the donation at tonight’s Four’N Twenty Legends Game at Marvel Stadium. The annual game brings past greats and fan favourites back to the field, with Team Victoria taking on the All Stars to raise funds for prostate cancer research and patient care.

The Government’s contribution will support the Australian Prostate Centre’s work caring for men with prostate cancer. It will also help fund vital research to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Australian men.

One in five Australian men is expected to be diagnosed in their lifetime. The Legends Game is organised by RULE Prostate Cancer, a partnership between the Australian Prostate Centre and the E.J. Whitten Foundation.

The Foundation was established in honour of Victorian football great Ted Whitten Senior. It has raised more than $15 million for men’s health since 1995 through the Legends Game and other awareness programs. The Labor Government is investing in Victoria’s world-class cancer system.
