Website search More gas is being delivered to Australian homes and businesses to secure Australia’s energy future with the first gas flowing from the Beetaloo basin to Darwin. Federal Resources Minister Madeleine King said first gas from Beetaloo to Darwin was a historic moment that would help secure energy supplies into the future for the Northern Territory and for the Eastern States.
“People have been talking about the Beetaloo’s potential for a long time – today, potential has become reality,” Minister King said. “This is an exciting moment for the Northern Territory and for Australia. “The development of the Beetaloo Basin will contribute to local, national and regional energy security.” Minister King said the Government supports development of new gas resources, and the NT Government’s efforts to secure reliable gas supplies for the region.
“Australia needs more gas, at a fair price, for Australian businesses and households.” “Beetaloo will deliver that.” Minister King thanked Tamboran Resources for its work, saying the project was an example of how investment certainty was helping bring on new supplies of energy across the country. Minister King said the Albanese Government’s Gas Market Review is providing further certainty for gas producers and end users.
“Projects like this don’t proceed unless there’s confidence in the rules of the road,” Minister King said. “We want to get the balance right between a fair go for Australian gas consumers and a stable investment environment and reliable LNG export industry.” The Future Gas Strategy mapped out the Albanese Government’s plan for how gas will support our economy’s transition to net zero in partnership with the world.
The Government is continuing to consult on gas market reforms, including domestic gas reservation arrangements, with a focus on energy security, investment certainty, and fair outcomes for consumers and industry.
