Administrative Review Tribunal (Miscellaneous Measures) Bill 2024
Senator CHISHOLM (Queensland—Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Assistant Minister for Education, Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Deputy Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (12:25): I completely reject your assertion there. As I mentioned earlier, we know that there are only two people in the country defending the old AAT: you and the former Attorney-General.
I understand what it's like being the loyal servant of the party that you are, but the reality is that the AAT that we inherited when we came to government was a complete mess. It had been used as a stacking exercise for the Liberal and National parties. We wanted to reform that.
We think it's an important reform that's in the long-term interest of the country.
