Senator SCARR (Queensland) (12:38): I agree with you on that, Minister. Again I note that it's a great shame that the committee processes of this Senate weren't given enough time to interrogate down in relation to these issues. The Law Council of Australia, in its submission to the legal and constitutional affairs tribunal in relation to this legislation, actually commented on the fact that—as I said in my second reading debate contribution—if legislation is going to be passed that is going to have such an impact on Australians in this country, it needs to go through rigorous scrutiny processes so issues like this are picked up.

Minister, is the government aware of any other cases, or any particular cases, where this new requirement has been linked to a tragic incident of family or domestic violence?
