Administrative Review Tribunal (Miscellaneous Measures) Bill 2024
Senator CHISHOLM (Queensland—Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Assistant Minister for Education, Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Deputy Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (13:19): Now we're on to wasting time around issues that actually don't exist at the moment. What Senator Scarr didn't acknowledge is that there is currently a registry in every state around the country and in the ACT.
In addition, the tribunal has a senior member based in Darwin, and the government expects that to increase as more members are employed and undertake that work. Including more detailed requirements in the legislation is not necessary. It may introduce unnecessary inflexibility.
What has become clear is that, unlike the opposition, we respect the independence of the tribunal and allow them to operate accordingly.
