Electoral Legislation Amendment (Electoral Reform) Bill 2024

Senator FARRELL (South Australia—Minister for Trade and Tourism, Special Minister of State and Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate) (22:06): The regime of administrative funding in our legislation is clear that the funds are paid to the endorsing national entity. For Independents, the administration funding is paid directly. This was in response to feedback from some Independents who were constructively engaged in this process.

I don't want the parliament to think that there wasn't constructive discussion with some of the Independents, because there was. Some of them made good suggestions, which we have picked up. Some of the Independents in this room would lead you to believe that there is no support from Independents for this legislation, but, in fact, there is.

Senator David Pocock interjecting— Senator FARRELL: I'm answering the senator's questions.
