Electoral Legislation Amendment (Electoral Reform) Bill 2024

Senator FARRELL (South Australia—Minister for Trade and Tourism, Special Minister of State and Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate) (22:07): I'll give one example. Dr Scamps asked if we could lift the donation cap to $50,000, and that's what we've done. For Independents, the administration funding is paid directly, and that's in response to some of the Independents who worked constructively with us.

Should parties or party structures change, the AEC will rely on the party registration, with the members themselves electing where that compliance funding is attributed. This is funding that cannot be used for campaigning.
