Electoral Legislation Amendment (Electoral Reform) Bill 2024
Mr GORMAN (Perth—Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister, Assistant Minister to the Attorney-General and Assistant Minister for the Public Service) (09:03): I move: That the amendments be considered immediately. Mr Bandt interjecting— The SPEAKER: There is a motion before the House. The question before the House is that the amendments be considered immediately, so I'll put that question.
Mr Bandt interjecting— The SPEAKER: The way the standing orders work is that, once the question is stated before the House to deal with a matter immediately, it's not debated. Ms Steggall: Shame! The SPEAKER: We'll just get further clarification to make sure everyone is informed of what's happening in the House.
The advice is that the motion can be debated. Mr GORMAN: I move: That the question be now put. The SPEAKER: The question before the House is that the question be put.
