Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Amendment (Reconsiderations) Bill 2025

Senator CASH (Western Australia—Leader of the Opposition in the Senate) (21:32): I move: At the end of the motion, add ", but the Senate notes that: (a) the Albanese Labor Government has put thousands of Western Australian jobs at risk by delaying the decision on the proposed extension of the Woodside North West Shelf gas project; (b) key stakeholders and business groups have put on the record that pushing back the deadline to at least 31 May will have a chilling effect on potential investment decisions; (c) Western Australian Labor MPs have let down their home state by refusing to stand up to the Prime Minister and Minister Plibersek and they must stop dragging their feet on the assessment of the gas hub extension; (d) the delay is a political decision by the Albanese Labor Government to secure preferences from the Australian Greens in the event of a minority government after the election; and (e) this is yet another example of how the Albanese Labor Government does not have the backs of Western Australians".

The PRESIDENT: The question is that the amendment as moved by Senator Cash be agreed to.
