The PRESIDENT (22:47): I will now deal with the second reading amendment circulated by Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party. The question is that the second reading amendment on sheet 3351 be agreed to. Pauline Hanson's One Nation's circulated amendment— At the end of the motion, add ", but the Senate: (a) notes that: (i) while acknowledging the important role of TAFE in providing vocational education, private providers and registered training organisations also need to be recognised for the role they play in providing training and education, often with better outcomes for students, and (ii) despite spending $1.5 billion on TAFE there are over 80,000 fewer apprentices and trainees than 3 years ago, with a TAFE course graduation rate of only around 13%, indicating the need for a complete overhaul of the system; and (b) is of the opinion that free TAFE should be prioritised for Australians and not provided on a fee-free basis to a visa holder".
