CONSTITUENCY STATEMENTS
Mr HOGAN (Page—Deputy Manager of Opposition Business and Deputy Leader of the National Party) (16:41): I'd like to acknowledge the Day for Liv. It's a fundraising event that was held in Grafton over the weekend and is held each year. It's in memory of Olivia Rogers, who, very sadly, passed away in June 2021 after battling cancer.
She was 13 years old. She was a passionate netballer, and the Day for Liv is a gala netball day at the Grafton Court that raises money each year for different charities. This year they raised funds for the Tie Dye Project and Little Windmills, which is a charity supporting country kids.
Thanks to Liv's family, Peta, Michael, Grace and Harry, and to the organising committee, who do a lot of work to make it happen: Megan Gerathy, Kim Anderson, Joanne Cardow, Michelle Oxenbridge, Brooke Burton, Kim Blinan and Rhee Searle It's always an emotional day, but it is great fun and has great memories of Liv, and it's a great charity fundraiser. I want to speak today about an inspiring 14-year-old girl in my community: Millie Trustum.
At seven, Millie was diagnosed with and bravely recovered from cancer. She was determined from that experience to make sure children didn't have to go through similar experiences, so, during her recovery, she raised over $90,000 at many events for the Kids' Cancer Project. She's hosted fundraisers, created colouring books, auctioned cows and done many other things to help find better treatments for children.
After spending six years cancer free, Millie has, sadly, been diagnosed with brain cancer. Our community has rallied behind her, raising over $63,000 to allow Millie to make every moment count. While undergoing treatment, Millie is still insistent on helping others.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and she's hosting a special kids cancer morning tea and markets at Greenridge Hall on 21 September. Millie's catchphrase is 'Have hope, stay strong, be brave.' Millie, we are all with you and your family. I'd like to congratulate the winners at this year's Alstonville Wollongbar business chambers awards.
