Defence Housing Australia Amendment Bill 2025

Senator SHOEBRIDGE (New South Wales) (13:13): To return the discussion to housing, Minister, you and other Labor senators have indicated that this bill is intended to permit and green-light the construction of some 550 homes for US defence personnel in and around Fremantle. Minister, given that the average cost of building on and acquiring the land for a home in Perth is now $750,000, where is the $412-odd million to build those homes going to come from?
