National Health Amendment (Cheaper Medicines) Bill 2025

Senator McALLISTER (New South Wales—Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme) (12:42): I can provide Senator Hanson with information about the approach that's taken to generic drugs. Of course we recognise that once a drug is out of patent it produces opportunities for other brands to produce that drug, and those brands then seek listing on the PBS, as any other brand would do.

I am advised that at the moment there are over 900 drugs on the PBS; 419 of those are listed with generic brand options available.
