STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Mr LIM (Tangney) (16:14): I first met Lindsay, David and Trevor when I was out doorknocking. These three long-time friends all live on the same street. They get together every week to talk about everything from their families to the issues that mean the most to them.

I call them the three amigos. And when they invited me to join them at their local pub, I couldn't say no. I was very sad to learn that Lindsay had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

There is no recovery from this horrible disease. As Lindsay told me, for many people, two to four years is what you've got. One day they were walking to the pub and they noticed a change in Lindsay's steps.

Then came tests and appointments with specialists, and then the eventual diagnosis of MND. A little while ago, the three amigos moved their catch-up to Lindsay's verandah. I saw the three amigos last week before I headed to Canberra.

Lindsay is as sharp and funny as ever, even as his muscles are weakening and his health is declining. I want to acknowledge Lindsay's wife of over 50 years and the love and care she provides Lindsay. Many people know very little about MND.

Thank you, Lindsay, for letting me share your story here.
