QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE

Senator WONG (South Australia—Minister for Foreign Affairs and Leader of the Government in the Senate) (14:10): We on this side of the chamber will continue to advocate for Australia's interests despite those opposite, the Liberals and the Nationals, being out of step again and again. They are still trying to undermine our relationship with the United States.

I would remind those opposite of just some of the commentary on their strategy from Mr Kelly in the Australian: This is a humiliation for the Coalition … Nearly everything they said now looks misconceived or plain wrong. James Massola at the Sydney Morning Herald said: … the opposition attack has come unstuck, and the sooner they realise it, the better for them.

Even Senator Hume has called her leader's attack 'churlish'. You know it's pretty dire when a backbencher has to remind their leader of what the national interest looks like. It shows that those opposite aren't up to the job.

They are focused on fighting amongst themselves. We are focused on delivering for all Australians. Senator Canavan interjecting— Senator McKenzie interjecting— The PRESIDENT: Order!

Senator Canavan and Senator McKenzie, you are not in a competition to see who can yell the loudest. This is question time. When I ask you to come to order, that is what I expect.
