Senator WONG (South Australia—Minister for Foreign Affairs and Leader of the Government in the Senate) (14:53): There's so much in that that I want to respond to. The first is that this is when you say what you really think—which you didn't say for a few weeks there, Senator Bragg—which is that you just think this is all a waste, because you actually don't want government involved in housing supply.

Do you know how we know that? You just don't want Australians who are struggling to have homes that are supported in their construction by the government of Australia. We fundamentally disagree.

This is not a waste. That's what you described it as—a waste. I don't think it's a waste to deliver 55,000 social and affordable houses in this country.

We don't think that's a waste. I know you have an ideological position where you think housing should be the preserve of those who can afford it. Well, we think more Australians should be entitled to the dream of homeownership, and we are determined to invest in social and— (Time expired)
