Senator PAYMAN (Western Australia—Australia's Voice Whip) (16:15): I move general business notices of motion Nos 181 and 182 together: GENERAL BUSINESS NOTICE OF MOTION NO. 181 That the Senate— (a) notes that: (i) the Minister representing the Treasurer has failed to fully comply with order for the production of documents no. 109, agreed to on 27 August 2025, relating to the 2023-24 Survey of Income and Housing (SIH 2023-24), and (ii) in a letter to the minister, the Treasurer identified 2 reasons for his decision to not comply with paragraph (a) of the order, which were that the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) was unable to release personal information due to requirements under section 13 of the Census and Statistics Act 1905, and that the ABS was unable to release aggregate results from the SIH 2023-24 due to serious shortcomings in the questionnaire design and data collection processes; (b) accepts that personal information should not be published without redaction, but rejects the notion that this should prohibit any data collected from the SIH 2023-24 from being published, including data which contains no personal information; (c) rejects the claim that shortcomings in questionnaire design and data collection processes are acceptable grounds for the withholding of documents from the Senate; and (d) requires the Minister representing the Treasurer to comply with paragraph (a) of the order by no later than midday on Friday, 31 October 2025.
