COMMITTEES

Senator CHISHOLM (Queensland—Assistant Minister for Regional Development, Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Assistant Minister for Resources and Deputy Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (16:20): I seek leave to make a short statement. The PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute. Senator CHISHOLM: The government will be opposing this motion.

We do not need to waste any more time on inquiries that deliver zero outcomes. The coalition already proved that as a failed method of time when they were in government. The industry has made it very clear that they want action, and so does our government.

That's why we appointed the administrator to conduct the systematic work that is required to get the job done. There are strong reporting requirements and transparency mechanisms already in place for the administration. Our focus is on taking decisive, tangible action to address the identified cultural and structural issues, including establishing the tripartite National Construction Industry Forum.

We have committed to making the construction industry productive, safe, lawful and sustainable for the future. The PRESIDENT: The question is that business of the Senate notice of motion No. 4, standing in the name of Senator Kovacic, be agreed to.
