MATTERS OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE
The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT ( Senator Grogan ) (16:36): The President has received letters from Senator Payman and Senator Hume proposing that definite matters of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion today. Senator Payman has submitted a proposal, under standing order 75, today, and it's shown on item 13 on today's Order of Business: The need for the definition of cyber-abuse material targeted at an Australian adult under the Online Safety Act 2021 to be amended to lower the threshold for behaviour to be considered adult cyber abuse, in line with recommendation 18 of the statutory review of that Act.
Is consideration of the proposal supported? More than the number of senators required by the standing orders having risen in their places— The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT: With the concurrence of the Senate, the clerks will set the clock in line with the informal arrangements made by the whips.
