Mr TED O'BRIEN (Fairfax—Deputy Leader of the Opposition) (13:33): It was a Sunday afternoon. He was 13 years of age. He stood there waiting for a bus at Nambour Connection Road.
He was abducted and he was murdered. I'm talking about Daniel Morcombe. This Friday, Walk for Daniel is on again, and I will be there to walk with them.
Later this week, in this parliament, regardless of political stripe, we'll be wearing red lapels in memory of Daniel; red was the colour of the shirt he wore on that tragic day. It's the colour of the shirts we'll wear on Friday when we do that walk. That walk now takes place right across the country.
I pay credit to his parents and to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, because they have turned an absolute tragedy into a message of hope about child safety. To them: we will walk with you.
