Senator McKIM (Tasmania—Australian Greens Whip) (15:57): I seek leave to make a one-minute statement. The PRESIDENT: Leave is granted for one minute. Senator McKIM: We see Senator Antic, and we see the transphobes in this place who want to punch down on trans folks and want to punch down on trans children at a time when the LNP government in Queensland, having had their first ban on gender-affirming care overturned by the Supreme Court yesterday, is doubling down this morning and going again to deny trans kids life-saving health support.
Gender-affirming care saves lives. It allows trans folks to live with dignity, and it allows them to actually be who they are. Trans people, and in particular trans kids, deserve our love and support in this place.
What they don't deserve is the introduction of a bill that will provide a platform for far-right, transphobic senators to keep punching down on trans folks. The Australian Greens are not going to have a bar of it, and we will be voting no on this hateful motion. (Time expired) The PRESIDENT: The question is that general business notice of motion No. 205 be agreed to.
