QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE

Senator GALLAGHER (Australian Capital Territory—Minister for Finance, Minister for the Public Service, Minister for Women, Minister for Government Services and Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (14:03): What I would say to households across Australia is that this government has your back. We are the ones that have put in place energy bill rebates as we go through some of the energy transition.

What I would also say is that the decade of those opposite wringing their hands and failing to land an energy policy—which, in opposition, they still can't do—has contributed to the situation we find ourselves in now. Twenty-four of the nation's 28 ageing coal-fired power stations announced they were closing within the decade under the former government. We saw energy generation leave the grid.

We have ensured that that is getting back on track, with gigawatts of energy coming back in. Those opposite failed the Australian community when it came to planning for our energy needs. This government is responsible.

We're the ones that are dealing with it whilst you continue to kill yourselves over energy— (Time expired) The PRESIDENT: Senator Paterson, second supplementary?
