Senator GALLAGHER (Australian Capital Territory—Minister for Finance, Minister for the Public Service, Minister for Women, Minister for Government Services and Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (14:05): That's coming from the spokesperson whose party took on bigger deficits and bigger debt and who was going to savage public servants in order to pay for a failed energy policy.
They come in here and start showing concern now when we have turned two Liberal deficits into two Labor surpluses. We know that that hurts them. We have significantly reduced the deficit in the final budget outcome for the last financial year.
We are dealing with areas of neglect that they failed consistently over 10 years to deal with. Whether it be energy, the NDIS, aged care, Medicare or infrastructure, everywhere you look across government, they were ignoring the pressures facing the Australian economy. We are dealing with them.
We are dealing with them in a responsible way. We're being upfront and honest about these pressures, and we're repairing the budget at the same time. (Time expired)
