Treasury Laws Amendment (Payday Superannuation) Bill 2025, Superannuation Guarantee Charge Amendment Bill 2025
Senator BARBARA POCOCK (South Australia) (12:15): Minister, I applaud the superannuation that's now payable on paid parental leave. I was one amongst many, many Australians who saw that as a gross inequity at the moment of a family change, where extra dollars make such a difference, especially for women in their longer term earnings. I have no argument about that.
But on what basis would you withhold superannuation from a 17-year-old—working alongside an 18-year-old—who is not paid super on every dollar they earn? What is the basis for that age discrimination?
