Social Security and Other Legislation Amendment (Technical Changes No. 2) Bill 2025

Senator GALLAGHER (Australian Capital Territory—Minister for Finance, Minister for the Public Service, Minister for Women, Minister for Government Services and Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (13:21): No, that's not correct. I said it would certainly come from the AFP or state or territory police, but as I said a number of times this morning the Department of Home Affairs must seek advice from Services Australia to identify any dependants and assess any impacts on them, and that advice must be considered as part of the decision-making process.

Where appropriate, the minister may recommend special adjustments, depending on the nature of the situation, recognising that each situation will differ.
