Social Security and Other Legislation Amendment (Technical Changes No. 2) Bill 2025
Senator GALLAGHER (Australian Capital Territory—Minister for Finance, Minister for the Public Service, Minister for Women, Minister for Government Services and Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (13:23): This would only cover offences where the individual has been charged and is punishable by imprisonment for life or a period or a maximum period of at least seven years and the offence involves or will involve one of the following, which I have read out a number of times—engaging in a terrorist act, which has the life imprisonment part of the Criminal Code, but you would have had to have been charged with that offence.
I'm not sure attending a protest and speaking at a protest—unless you have been charged with a serious terrorist offence, this section would not apply.
