Senator COLLINS (New South Wales—Deputy Opposition Whip in the Senate) (14:01): My question is to Minister Ayres, the Minister representing the Minister for Climate Change and Energy. Minister, recently ANZ CEO Mr Nuno Matos, in relation to reaching net zero by 2050, told the House of Representatives economics committee: Some still believe it's possible, but I would say that at this point in time—with the current dynamics, the current technology and the current public stance in many parts of the world—it is becoming more difficult to reach.
He also said, in relation to reaching net zero by 2050: The medicine could kill the patient … Minister, do you disagree with Mr Matos's assertion that net zero by 2050 may be the medicine that kills the patient?
