Senator GREEN (Queensland—Assistant Minister for Tourism, Assistant Minister for Pacific Island Affairs and Assistant Minister for Northern Australia) (13:57): The intention of including a ministerial directions power in the OPC act is to allow the Attorney-General to direct OPC to ensure that drafting resources are being directed to the highest legislative priorities of the government and to enhance delivery of the government's legislative priorities.

Any direction issued will be of a general nature and will be required to be issued to OPC in writing. It is expected that any direction relating to allocation of drafting resources to legislative priorities will be informed by decisions of the Parliamentary Business Committee of Cabinet.
