Senator CASH (Western Australia—Leader of the Opposition in the Senate) (14:25): Given the admissions in relation to the importance of independence for the Director of Safeguards, with the international credibility issues in particular, what safeguards exist in the bill to prevent suspension—which your evidence is you can actually be suspended for up to 12 months—being used to undermine ASNO's operational independence at a time when Australia's nuclear safeguards credibility is directly relevant to the AUKUS partnership?
