QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE

Senator WONG (South Australia—Minister for Foreign Affairs and Leader of the Government in the Senate) (14:10): The longer the conflict in the Middle East goes on the more disruptive the impact will be on the global economy and on Australians here at home. That is why the government acted early to manage impacts on all Australians. We have introduced new laws to double penalties for petrol companies engaging in price gouging.

We convened National Cabinet and appointed a national fuel supply price taskforce coordinator to ensure that all levels of government are working together to support Australians. We have tasked the ACCC to ramp up fuel price monitoring and issue on-the-spot fines, and we have begun the release of 20 per cent of Australia's fuel reserves to get more fuel flowing to where it is needed.

We on this side of the chamber will continue to work with industry, states and regulators to help ensure fuel goes to where it's needed and to ensure Australia remains resilient in the face of this global energy shock. (Time expired) The PRESIDENT: Senator Marielle Smith, a second supplementary?
