QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE
Senator GALLAGHER (Australian Capital Territory—Minister for Finance, Minister for the Public Service, Minister for Women, Minister for Government Services and Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (14:39): I thank Senator Tyrrell for that question. I go back to my previous answer. I think there is a responsibility on those elected into the parliament of Australia to conduct themselves in a way that meets community standards and sets the standards about safe ways to engage online.
I think you're right; there are examples where that standard hasn't been met. I disagree with pretty much everything that comes out of One Nation in terms of statements. There's not a lot of policy that they provide to outline, but they are elected to this chamber, and, therefore, their capacity to contribute to democratic debate is through their election into this chamber.
I do definitely think that we should, as leaders in this place, engage at the highest standard online, and I'm not sure that has always been the case. I think it has affected all of us in different ways—the way they conduct themselves.
