QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE

Senator FARRELL (South Australia—Minister for Trade and Tourism, Special Minister of State and Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate) (14:41): I thank Senator Canavan for his question. This is a good deal. The EU free trade agreement is a good deal.

In fact, it's a great deal for Australia, and it's going to be a great deal for the farmers that you claim to represent. Senator McKenzie: They don't think so! The PRESIDENT: Come to order, Senator McKenzie!

Senator FARRELL: It's going to be a great deal for the farmers that you claim to represent. I was disappointed at our meeting earlier today, Senator Canavan, when you decided to tear up the opportunity to work together to promote trade in this country. For four years, Senator Canavan, we had a bipartisan position on trade— Senator Canavan: That doesn't absolve you from scrutiny.

Senator Watt: Until you came in! The PRESIDENT: Order across the chamber! Senator FARRELL: until a couple of weeks ago.

I know, Senator Canavan, you took this job in order to take on One Nation, and, in your first outing last weekend in South Australia, your party got less than one per cent of the vote, whereas One Nation got 22 per cent of the vote. Senator Canavan: I have a point of order on direct relevance. I'm asking what the deal has for farmers.

If it's a good deal, he should be able to list that, not talk about the South Australian election. The PRESIDENT: Senator Canavan, you do not need to repeat the question, and I will draw the minister back to your question. Senator FARRELL: The Liberal Party didn't even give the Nationals their preference!

That's how far— The PRESIDENT: Senator McDonald? Senator McDonald: This is so not relevant. Farmers are desperate, and this is rubbish!

The PRESIDENT: Senator McDonald, why are you on your feet? Resume your seat. I have drawn the minister back to the question.

Senator McKenzie: You can't even list one benefit! Tell them what it is. The PRESIDENT: Order!

Senators McKenzie and McDonald, come to order. Senator FARRELL: You're right, Senator McDonald, farmers are desperate—they're desperate to get rid of the National Party! How do I know that?

Because of the votes in South Australia on the weekend. You no longer represent farmers in this country. (Time expired) Honourable senators interjecting— The PRESIDENT: Order!

I have Senator Canavan on his feet. He's entitled to be heard in silence. Senator Canavan, first supplementary?
