Senator HANSON-YOUNG (South Australia—Manager of Australian Greens Business in the Senate) (15:45): I move: That the following matters be referred to the Environment and Communications References Committee for inquiry and report by 16 November 2026: (a) the effectiveness of existing regulatory frameworks in managing the growth of data centres in Australia, including in relation to existing and future deals between the Government and global Artificial Intelligence (AI) companies; (b) the potential impacts of AI and data centres on Australian communities, industries and the environment, water and energy; and any other related matters.
