Mr TEHAN (Wannon—Manager of Opposition Business) (12:07): I move: That new paragraph (24) be inserted before paragraph (3) as follows: "questions on the second reading of the Treasury Laws Amendment (Tax Reform No. 1) Bill 2026 and of the Income Tax Rates Amendment (Tax Reform No. 1) Bill 2026 not being put until such time as every government Member has spoken during the second reading debate".

There are a couple of reasons why we are doing this. Honourable members interjecting— Mr TEHAN: I notice the laughing from those opposite, but we want to make sure that every single member on that side, on the government's side, comes in and absolutely owns this deceit. We want every single one of you to be able to come in and to be able to look the Australian people in the eye and say, 'We said one thing before the election, and we're doing the exact opposite now.' It is incredibly important that the Australian people know that those opposite have no respect for them whatsoever and that you were prepared to all go to the people in your electorates and say: 'We will not change capital gains tax.

We will do nothing on negative gearing.' Yet here you are. You're going to do the complete opposite. Now, I thought we might be able to give those opposite a little bit of a hand in how to deal with the broken promises.
