Ms MASCARENHAS (Swan) (13:34): 'Woo hoo!'—that is the feeling of riding a bike. And today is UN world bike day. I know that the member for Perth is a regular cyclist and has ridden across our magnificent Boorloo Bridge in Perth.
Today is a day of celebrating the simplicity of riding a bike, and I can let people know that the community of Swan loves riding bikes, whether that's the mamils of South Perth commuting to work, or the parents of Vic Park riding their cargo bikes to do school drop-off, or whether it's kids from Beckenham playing on the BMX course. All people in my community love cycling.
And, of course, we have the magnificent Boorloo Bridge. But this is a government that doesn't just talk the talk or walk the walk, or ride the ride; we're actually putting money behind this. In Swan, in Cannington, we've provided funding from the Active Transport Fund to build an active transport footpath from the Cannington Leisureplex to the river.
This goes past the Canning RSL. It also goes past Cannington Community College. This will be a great community asset.
But in this budget we've also committed $500 million from the Active Transport Fund—that's $50 million over a 10-year period. Cycling is great for your health. It's great for the environment.
It's also great for your back pocket. This is about getting people cycling.
