Mr TEHAN (Wannon—Manager of Opposition Business) (13:54): Who said this: 'My word is my bond. I'm a Prime Minister who will promise to do things and then go and do them. I think that's how you restore faith in politics'?
And who said this beauty: 'I don't lie to them'? He's sitting right there! And what did he do?
We've just seen the greatest act of betrayal that this parliament has seen in 20 years. You are all party to it— The DEPUTY SPEAKER ( Ms Claydon ): Member for Wannon, direct your comments through the chair. Mr TEHAN: and at the next election you will pay the price.
Now— The DEPUTY SPEAKER: Member for Wannon, I don't think you heard me. I was asking you to direct your comments through the chair. Mr TEHAN: Thanks, Deputy Speaker.
Can I say, there are three things that are very problematic with what you have done. There's $77 billion in new taxes. You have killed enterprise in this country, especially when it comes to small business and to farmers.
The last thing you have done is you have betrayed the very oath— The DEPUTY SPEAKER: Member for Wannon, I would ask you to direct your comments through the chair. Mr TEHAN: The Labor Party have betrayed their oath to the Australian people. Shame on you.
Shame on you. Shame on you! The DEPUTY SPEAKER: I'm just going to say this one more time: robust debate is welcome in this place, but those kinds of personal attacks are not okay.
You will direct your comments through me. Everyone's going to start getting their time clipped because of this.
