STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms TEESDALE (Bass) (13:31): Last week I was entirely pleased to be able to go and visit a site where 49 new homes have come out of the ground. Prior to the election last year, I turned the sod there with Minister Clare O'Neil. Most of these houses are due to be complete by Christmas this year.

The site itself has a wonderful vibe. It's a community feel. We've got one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, none of which are the same design, so they're all unique and they're all purposeful.

One of the homes has four bedrooms and the biggest yard I've ever seen. I cannot wait for a family to love this home and to be in here with their kids as their kids grow up, watching their kids play in the backyard as they're in that big living space and that beautiful new kitchen. There's another home which actually looks out over a railway.

We don't have many of those in Tasmania. There aren't many trains. But, each year, at Christmas time, we have a Christmas train.

It is the highlight for a lot of people. This house actually looks over that rail yard. By this Christmas, that house might have a family inside, and they may have kids who are waiting for the Christmas train to go past.

That is what Labor is doing. We are building homes for people to love, to live in and to grow in for the future, and we are very proud of that.
