STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS

Ms LE (Fowler) (16:09): A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, the Cancer Council's flagship fundraiser, in our community across Fairfield and Liverpool. As a breast cancer survivor, I'm honoured to stand with my community as we fundraised, raised awareness and encouraged people in the Fowler electorate to speak openly about this disease.

Almost one in two Australians will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85. In an electorate as diverse as Fowler, that statistic crosses every community, every language and every background. Cancer awareness has come a long way since this campaign began in 1993, but the truth is that we still have a long way to go.

It is thanks to events like this that we can keep raising awareness, educating the public and advocating for more funding for cancer research. Thank you to the Fairfield biggest morning tea, led by Sinilia Radivojevic and her volunteers, who raised over $41,000. I also thank Father Paul Monkerud, Maketalena Afeaki and All Saints Catholic Parish in Liverpool for welcoming me and for getting behind such an important cause.
