Mr MONCRIEFF (Hughes) (16:13): This year's King's Birthday Honours List recognised the achievements of 949 Australians for service to their communities and public service to the arts, science and sport. My electorate of Hughes is home to a wealth of outstanding recipients of this year's awards. Warrant Officer Bradley Lahey was awarded with an Order of Australia Medal for his exceptional services as a command warrant officer in the Royal Australian Navy, implementing reforms to the warrant officer advancement process and training on sexual ethics and respectful relationships.
Janet Meagher was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for her distinguished service to mental health and disability, having served in a multitude of advocacy roles, including as the Mental Health Commissioner for the National Mental Health Commission. Distinguished Professor Claude Roux was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his pioneering work in forensic science, including innovative approaches to fingerprint techniques and the application of forensics in investigative intelligence and court purposes.
Station Officer Robert Lightfoot was awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal for his service in Fire and Rescue NSW since 1998 in stations across South Sydney, having spent 14 years as a team leader of firefighter development. Deborah Sharp also received a well-deserved Australian Fire Service Medal. Mrs Sharp joined the Engadine Brigade of the RFS in 2004 and has served in many leadership roles as well as engaging in a wide spectrum of volunteer emergency service.
These exceptional individuals are highly deserving of the recognition they have received, and I thank them for their years of service and dedication to our community.
