Dr WEBSTER (Mallee) (16:18): I want to talk about a wonderful woman. Gwenda Louise Malcolm, known as Gwen, born on 8 May 1944, sadly passed away this last Saturday, 27 June 2026, having been diagnosed just 18 days earlier with pancreatic cancer. Gwen is survived by her loving husband, Alan; their kids, Susie, Paula and Ian, and their partners; and their 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Like so many women who make their home on big farms, Gwen was strong and yet so generous and kind. You have to be strong, living on a farm, to run a family and then some, including the CWA, Garden Club, Probus and church. Gwen and Alan have long been Nationals members and active supporters.
I met Gwen in the 2019 election and noted her exceptional quality of hospitality and encouragement. Gwen and Alan were the ones who, every election, drove around the myriad of small towns, putting up corflutes and finding people to stand on booths—rain, hail or shine. Gwen will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
May she rest in peace.
